The Roadway and Infrastructure Plans collection houses the plans and proposals of Montgomery County’s Highway Department. This collection, which spans from 1930 to 2000, consists of roadway, building, airport, cemetery, and subdivision plans, which document the infrastructural changes and growth of the county.

Arrangement

The Roadway and Infrastructure collection is arranged by subject into three series: I. Roadway Plans, 1930-1990. II. Building and Infrastructure Plans, 1960-1979. III. Subdivision Plans, 1979-2000. Each series is organized chronologically, with all undated plans and proposals at the end of the series.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

Due to the light-sensitive nature of blueprints, researchers will not have access to the originals, but must refer to the scanned copies instead.

Custodial History

The materials in this collection were created by and transferred from the Montgomery County Highway Department.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Transferred from the Highway Department, March 14, 2023.

Further accruals are expected in the future.

Physical Facet

The collection contains blueprints which have been stored between sheets of acid-free paper and require special care.

Processing Information

The materials were arranged in series based on the type of plan and placed in acid-free folders. There was no obvious pattern to the original arrangement, so the materials were rearranged and put in chronological order. The collection contains blueprints, which were layered between sheets of acid-free paper within the folders for added protection.
