Biographical / Historical
This collection was donated by Julia M. Haynes, a member of the Ringgold division of the Tennessee Association for Family and Community Education, originally known as the Ringgold Home Demonstration Club. The materials in this collection were created by the Ringgold Home Demonstration Club, which was founded in July 1921. Founding members include Drane, Dabney, Cunningham, Nichols, Mills, and Ellior among others. These clubs were organized by districts within Montgomery County, Tennessee and held their own club meetings, organized activities, and planned events. The name of the club and organization under which it is governed has evolved over the years and has been formally known as the Tennessee Home Demonstration Club, Tennessee Extension Homemakers Club (E.H.C.), National Extension Homemakers Council, and Tennessee Association for Family and Community Education. The Tennessee Association for Family and Community Education (F.C.E.) now consists of a network of community organizations in Tennessee. The goals of F.C.E. are to learn through shared experience, improve home and community life, strengthen adult education, and promote projects that enhance family and community life.
