Scope and Contents

This collection consists of materials used during the development and publishing of the Faces of Valor, a commemorative book series documenting the lives and service of local veterans. Materials include participant questionnaires, documentation of service, photographs, draft chapter text, publishing page proofs, and the final published version of volumes I through V.

Biographical / Historical

In 2005 the Kiwanis Club of Clarksville published the first edition of Faces of Valor as a guide book to an exhibit of local veterans’ photographs on display at the Montgomery County Courthouse. The overwhelmingly positive response of community members spurred the Kiwanis Club to produce more volumes, adding to the number of Montgomery County veterans honored by the project. The documents included in this collection are for five editions of Faces of Valor, Volume 1, which was published in 2005, Volume II, which was published in 2011, Volume III, which was published in 2013, Volume IV, which was published in 2015, and Volume V, which was published in 2017. The questionnaires and supporting documentation in this collection are the items that community members submitted in order to have their veteran included in the publication. Some of the items submitted include copies of discharge papers, service award citations and certificates, newspaper clippings, biographies and photographs. This collection is arranged in the original order that it was placed in by the Kiwanis Club of Clarksville.

Abstract

The Kiwanis Club of Clarksville, Tennessee donated this collection to the Montgomery County Archives through a number of accessions begining in 2013. This collection includes the planing documents, correspondence, questionnaires, and supporting biographical documents submitted for the Faces of Valor publications between 2005 and 2017.

Arrangement

Original order per book as submitted by creator. Questionnaires are alphabetical and grouped by period of service. This collection is arranged in five series based on publication and material type:

Processing Information

Questionnaires were removed from plastic sheet protectors and staples removed. Original photographs smaller than a full page were removed to the Montgomery County Photograph Collection.
