Biographical / Historical

The Montgomery County Soil Conservation District was founded in September 1944 as a subset of Congress’s Public Law 46 of 1935 which established soil and water conservation as a national issue. There are 95 districts in Tennessee, the Montgomery County Soil Conservation District being one of them, that are responsible for their individual conservation programs. The district is run by a Board of Supervisors made of five nominated, local residents. The Conservation District offers a variety of programs that aim to assist local farmers in caring for their land as well as funding their efforts. The Conservation District also offers educational programs targeted towards children and future agriculturalists and conservationists. At the time of this collection, the Conservation District was especially concerned with issues such as zoning lines, land development, and wildlife habitats.
