From the Collection:

The Danforth Family Photographs is a collection of 38 photographs taken in Syria (modern-day Lebanon) that belonged to sisters Agnes and Helen Danforth. The photographs, which date from circa 1884 to 1905, primarily consist of landscape views of the Adonis River Valley and surrounding locations in Syria. A small number also feature people and structures from the same region. The Danforth sisters were the children of missionaries based in Syria.

Description

Two photographs mounted to a large backing. The photograph on the left (labeled 18) is a black and white photograph of a series of waterfalls flowing from rocky cliffs banked by rocky hills. A woman in a dark colored dress and wearing a head wrap sits against a rock next to the falls. The photograph on the right (labeled 19) is a black and white photograph of a waterfall flowing beneath a stone bridge. The opening is arched and the stones slope down the face of the drop.
