From the Collection:

The Danforth Family Photographs is a collection of 38 photographs taken in Syria (modern-day Lebanon) that belonged to sisters Agnes and Helen Danforth. The photographs, which date from circa 1884 to 1905, primarily consist of landscape views of the Adonis River Valley and surrounding locations in Syria. A small number also feature people and structures from the same region. The Danforth sisters were the children of missionaries based in Syria.

Description

Two photographs mounted to a large backing. The photograph on the left (labeled 16) is a black and white photograph of several women and two children standing and sitting on the steps of a multi-story stone structure. There is a tree growing from the base of the wall of the structure. Several of the people have woven baskets on hand. The photograph on the right (labeled 17) is a black and white photograph of a thin waterfall flowing from the top of a cliff to a rocky base.
