From the Collection:

The Danforth Family Photographs is a collection of 38 photographs taken in Syria (modern-day Lebanon) that belonged to sisters Agnes and Helen Danforth. The photographs, which date from circa 1884 to 1905, primarily consist of landscape views of the Adonis River Valley and surrounding locations in Syria. A small number also feature people and structures from the same region. The Danforth sisters were the children of missionaries based in Syria.

Description

Two photographs mounted to a large backing. The photograph on the left (labeled 10) is a black and white photograph of a line of cedar trees along the edge of a rocky clearing. The trees appear to be along the edge of a cliff. The photograph on the right (labeled 11) is a black and white photograph of two circular tents and a smaller tent placed along a line of cedar trees. Two people sit at the base of a tree to the left of the smaller tent and a third person sits on the ground to the right of the tent.
