Wills of the Fort Family (Elias Fort and Will Dancy), 1761 to 1802
Scope and Contents
The “Genealogy” series in this collection includes a swath of genealogical research pertaing to the Fort family. Many of the items in this series are from corporate businesses that sold genealogical information to patrons that wrote to them. However, some of the genealogical research in this series was discovered through personal correspondence among members of the Forts and Flemings and has been succinctly collected on type-written sheets of paper. Additional genealogical information can be found in the “Correspondence” series, as Margaret Fort (Fleming) seemed to have a particular interest for the family’s genealogy. Much of the material contained in this series was written in the latter 15 years of the 19th century, and continued until Margaret’s death in 1943. This series is organized chronologically.
