Correspondence Addressed to Margaret Fleming, 1899
Scope and Contents
The “Correspondence” series, which dates approximately from 1860 to the mid-1950s, encompasses a wide array of both sprawling letters and quickly written short notes. The topics among this series are mostly family-related idle pleasantries, but it does feature letters discussing genealogy of the Forts and Flemings, wartime correspondence of Robert Fleming during his tenure as a Confederate soldier in the American Civil War, letters sent from a European vacation taken by the Forts, letters related to smaller business dealings and their statuses, and tragedies that befell the Forts and Flemings, however devastating. This series is arranged chronologically.
