Biography

Paul Lyle was born on August 14, 1921 in Montgomery County, Tennessee. He spent most of his childhood in Houston County and joined the U.S. Army when he was 19 years old. He spent more than 20 years in the military before settling Clarksville. He held the position of Director of the Clarksville Regional Planning Commission for a short time before he was appointed to the position of Director of Accounts and Budgets and Purchasing Agent for Montgomery County. Lyle served in that position 1982. He briefly assumed the role of interim county executive, completeing the final few months of William O. Beach's after he retired early from the position in February of that year. He campaigned to continue in the role during the election later that year, but was unsuccessful. He retired from county government that same year with plans to spend his time tending to his small family cattle farm with his wife Eloise Smith Lyle. He died in 2008.
