Abstract

Evelyn Homer Glenn Hunter was born in Clarksville, Tennessee in 1927. Together with her mother, Mildred Smith Glenn, Evelyn had a strong interest in her family genealogy and local history. The two women collected family papers and paid particular attention to their Bowman and Smith family ancestors in their research, as well as Serepta Jordan Homer. The materials include original family papers, photographs, genealogical research, and other related printed materials.

This collection consists of a scrapbook documenting the life of the Karhu family in Clarksville, Tennessee, as well as their friends and extended family. The scrapbook contains photographs, newspaper clippings, documents, programs, and other ephemera from 1941-1986. It primarily focuses on the activities of Vicky, Ann, and Jane Karhu as children and young adults. It also includes materials on the Clarksville High School band and Carolyn Karhu's involvement in local theater.

The Purple and Gold Collection contains approximately 550 items, consisting of monthly editions of The Purple and Gold literary magazine, ranging from 1914 to 2007, with gaps in the collection. The magazine was in print on a monthly basis during the school year from the early 1910s through the mid-1960s. Special class reunion editions were published later, with the most recent one in the collection published in 2007.
