Welcome to the Montgomery County Archives.

The Montgomery County Department of Preservation of Records, more widely known as the Archives, was created by the County Board of Commissioners in January 1995. The department serves as the official repository for county records and operates under Tennessee State law and the direction of the Montgomery County Public Records Commission. We also collect and preserve personal, business, organizational, historical, and genealogical papers that document Montgomery County and its citizens as part of our manuscripts and special collections.

On this site, you can search or browse guides (finding aids) to collections at the Montgomery County Archives. Finding aids are detailed inventories of unique collections that provide information about the creation, historical context, and contents of primary source materials.

Please note that not all of our collections have been processed, and we are continually creating new finding aids. If you are looking for something and do not see it in the finding aids here, or if you have any questions about the collections, please contact us at mcarchives@mcgtn.net.
