Biographical / Historical

In November 1976 the city of Clarksville submitted a grant application on behalf of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library to the federal government through the Public Works Employment Act of 1976. The grant was intended to fund a remodel and addition to the existing public libary building, located at 329 Main Street. The firm Jerry Clark and Associates was selected to draft the plans for the project and the initial design was submitted with the grant application. The plan called for doubling the amount of space in the building. The application was approved, awarding the library with a $350,000 grant to fund the construction costs. Construction began in April 1977 and was completed by July 1978.

The library remained in that building until 1997 when it moved into the building that formerly housed the Harvey's Department Store on Pageant Lane. Once the library vacated the building on Main Street the Clarksville Regional Planning Commission struck a deal with the city and county to move into the building. They continue to occupy that space as of January 2021.
